Why the Gyan Mudra?
The Passive Mudra:Gyan Mudra: Seal of Knowledge
This mudra is the one most commonly used. It gives receptivity and calmness, yet allows us to access and utilize the energy we are running.
The tip of thumb correlates to the pituitary and endocrine glands. When you press these centers with the index finger the two glands work actively. The energy of the index finger is associated with Jupiter, representing expansion. To form gyan mudra, put the tip of the thumb together with the tip of the index finger. This stimulates knowledge, wisdom, and the power to compute.

The Active/Receptive Mudra:We use the “passive” form of Gyan Mudra unless the “active" form is specified.
The mudra is formed by locking the thumb over the index finger, pressing the index nail into the thumb pad. Use the Active/Receptive Gyan Mudra for opening the energy gates in the brain. Gyan mudra is helpful to improve mind power and leads to spiritual enlightenment.
The practice of the mudra stimulates the brain, and the nervous system is strengthened by it's use. It facilitates the movement of electrical impulses along nerves. The gyan mudrā strengthens the pituitary gland which consequently helps to improve the entire system of endocrine glands. Gyan mudra strengthens all the muscles in the body. The gyan mudra reinforces the vocal cords and heart and helps dry the body when it is too wet: the skin and mucous membrane, the joints and articular cartilage. |
